The New Photo For ‘The Hobbit’ Stings

(Written for Lost In The Multiplex)

Another new image has been released, debuted by The Los Angeles Times earlier this month, for Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, featuring Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins with his sword named Sting.

An Unexpected Journey is the first of two films to be adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel The Hobbit, the prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which sees Jackson return as director, whilst also serving as producer and co-writer as well.

The film follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins (Freeman) who is swept into a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch). Approached by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), Bilbo finds himself joining the company of thirteen dwarves through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins, Orcs, deadly Wargs, Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, Bilbo gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring – a simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The film also stars Richard Armitage, Stephen Fry, James Nesbitt, Aidan Turner, Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly, as well as many other The Lord of The Rings actors reprising their roles including Elijah Wood as Frodo, Andy Serkis as Gollum, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Ian Holm as an older Bilbo, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett and many more.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is set to be released in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theatres on 14th December, 2012.
