(Written for Lost In The Multiplex)
Whilst the news was announced earlier this month, over at the Multiplex we are yet to report on the news of Sam Raimi‘s re-telling of the classic Wizard Of Oz adventure.
When Perez Hilton posted what is apparently the first look at the make-up for a flying monkey in the latest re-imagining of L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s novel, see below for the image, the news didn’t appeal to my interests until, only this week, I saw the cast list.
Scheduled for an 8th March, 2013 release, the fantasy adventure, which has been titled Oz The Great and Powerful, stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff, Joey King and Bruce Campbell.
Not that the story needs to be re-told, I’m sure the Wizard of Oz is something we all grew up with, this re-telling actually looks like it will be quite successful. And if this line-up doesn’t excite you as much as it has me, then read the film’s synopsis below and let us know what you think. As for the image itself, it’s actually quite scary.
“When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.”
