Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter is set to open at the end of this month, and have this week released a production video of the scale model of the Hogwarts Castle, which has been revealed to the public for the very first time.

Taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in London, the very place where all eight of the Harry Potter films were brought to life, the unique walking tours take visitors behind-the-scenes and showcase a huge array of the best-loved sets, unique items, costumes and props, including Harry’s Nimbus 2000 and Hagrid’s motorcycle, as well as some exciting hands-on interactive exhibits that will make you feel like you’re actually there.

Providing an amazing new opportunity to explore the set of the most successful film series of all time, visitors are given the chance to discover the actual Great Hall, explore Dumbledore’s office, step onto the famous cobbles of Diagon Alley, featuring the shop fronts of Ollivanders wand shop, Flourish and Blotts, the Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, Gringotts Wizarding Bank and Eeylops Owl Emporium.

Today the magnificent model of Hogwarts castle was revealed for the first time which, hand sculpted to a 1:24 scale construction, was originally built for the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, back in 2001.

As the grand finale of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, the model took 86 artists and crew members to construct the first version which was then rebuilt and altered many times over for the next seven films. When all the man hours gone into the building and reworking of the castle is totalled up, the work was so extensive that it would come to over 74 years.

Created for aerial photography and digitally scanned for CGI scenes. the model sits at nearly 50 feet in diameter and has over 2,500 fibre optic lights that simulate lanterns and torches. To show off the lighting to full effect a day-to-night cycle will take place every four minutes, and even gives the illusion of students passing through hallways, so visitors can experience its full beauty.

Here’s a time-lapsed video of the model’s construction:

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter will open its doors for the very first time to visitors from 31st March with tickets now on sale. Whilst London is quite far away for a spontaneous video, the tour’s trailer below highlights the magical experience that it has to offer.
